Mark Streeter, owner of Courtesy Taxis has launched a pioneering taxi voucher scheme in the hope it could help solve the problem of young people getting home safely after a night out.
Parents, other family members or friends of young people can order the vouchers in varying denominations from 50p to £20 from the company, either in person or over the phone, with a credit card. The vouchers are then sent recorded delivery to the chosen recipient. The vouchers can then be handed to a Courtesy Taxi driver after a night out instead of cash, either for the full fare or part of it.
The vouchers primarily target the younger generation, but the options are varied. Whether it's a teenager whose parents want to know they will be able to get home, a student at UEA, perhaps whose parents would buy a book of vouchers for their travel while studying, children going to and from a party, a company buying vouchers for staff transport or pensioners who would just prefer not to carry money, the uses are endless.
